Gamma-glutamyltransferase light chain 1 (GGTLC1) is a protein encoded by the GGTLC1 gene. It is a member of the gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) family but is distinct from the better-studied GGT1 enzyme. GGTLC1 contains homology to the light chain region of canonical GGT enzymes but lacks a transmembrane domain and the full enzymatic activity found in classical GGTs. Its function is incompletely understood; Gene Ontology descriptions list its gamma-glutamyltransferase activity as "obsolete," and its characterized physiological roles and interacting drugs remain unknown. Disease associations are limited, with possible links to glutathionuria, but no direct evidence establishes it as a therapeutic target.
