Overview

Staphylococcus gamma-hemolysin CB (HlgCB) is a bicomponent, pore-forming toxin produced by Staphylococcus aureus. It comprises HlgC and HlgB subunits, which assemble to form a functional toxin that targets human complement receptors C5aR (CD88) and C5L2 on phagocytic cells like neutrophils and monocytes, leading to cell lysis. HlgCB contributes to S. aureus virulence by impairing innate immune responses. Its expression varies among clinical isolates due to differences in gene regulation.
