Target intelligence / Profile preview
Gamma-sarcoglycan (SGCG) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is a core component of the sarcoglycan complex within the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex (DGC) in muscle cell membranes. It plays a critical role in maintaining muscle integrity by linking the cytoskeleton inside muscle cells to the extracellular matrix. Mutations in SGCG cause limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2C (LGMD2C).
