Gamma-tubulin complex component 5 (TUBGCP5) is a protein-coding gene that encodes a component of the gamma-tubulin ring complex (γTuRC), which is critical for microtubule nucleation at the centrosome in human cells. This protein enables microtubule binding activity and is localized primarily to the centrosome, ciliary basal body, and cytosol. The gamma-tubulin ring complex is essential for the formation of functional microtubule organizing centers, thereby facilitating cell division, maintenance of cell structure, and ciliary function. TUBGCP5 plays important roles in cellular processes dependent on microtubule dynamics, with disease associations including autism spectrum disorder and dyscalculia, though it is not currently considered a common therapeutic target[1][2][3][5][7].
