Gap junction alpha-4 protein (GJA4)

Target
GJA4
Molecular classification
Ion channel, Gap junction protein, Connexin family
01

Overview

Gap junction alpha-4 protein (GJA4 or Connexin-37) is a member of the connexin family that forms gap junction channels connecting the cytoplasm of adjacent cells, especially in vascular endothelial tissues. These channels provide a direct pathway for the diffusion of ions and small molecules (up to 1 kDa), supporting essential physiological processes such as electrical coupling, metabolic cooperation, and coordinated cellular responses. Mutations or dysregulation of GJA4 are associated with vascular pathologies, including increased risk of atherosclerosis and hemangiomas[1][4].
