Gap junction beta family pseudogene (ENSG00000283587) is a genomic element classified as a pseudogene related to the gap junction beta protein family. Unlike protein-coding genes such as GJB2 or GJB3, which produce functional gap junction proteins (connexins) involved in direct cell-to-cell communication, this pseudogene does not encode a functional protein and is not involved in canonical gap junction signaling. Pseudogenes may arise from duplication or retrotransposition events and, in rare cases, can have regulatory functions at the RNA level, but the clinical or experimental significance of ENSG00000283587 is currently unknown[7]. It is not considered a therapeutic target, not associated with drug interactions or biomarkers, and has no direct role in disease. Potential confusion can arise because protein-coding gap junction beta family members like Gap junction protein beta 2 (GJB2, Connexin 26) and Gap junction protein beta 3 (GJB3, Connexin 31) are well-characterized functional genes, whereas this entry is exclusively a pseudogene and not a valid therapeutic target[2][6].
