Overview

Gastric H+,K+-ATPase is a membrane-bound enzyme complex responsible for acidifying the stomach contents. It is an alpha,beta-heterodimeric enzyme that exchanges intracellular hydronium ions (H+) with extracellular potassium ions (K+) using ATP. It is primarily found in parietal cells of the stomach lining and is the target of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), a major class of drugs used to treat acid-related diseases.
