Overview
Gastric mucosal cells are a diverse population of epithelial cells lining the stomach, critical for digestion and protection. They include surface mucous cells (secreting protective mucus), parietal cells (producing HCl and intrinsic factor), chief cells (releasing pepsinogen), mucous neck cells (glandular protection), and enterochromaffin-like cells (hormone secretion). Their coordinated functions ensure efficient digestion while safeguarding the stomach lining from its own acidic environment. Disruption leads to diseases like gastritis and ulcers.
