Gastrointestinal gas refers to the accumulation of air or other gases within the digestive tract, primarily in the stomach and intestines. This gas can cause symptoms such as bloating, abdominal discomfort, pressure, fullness, and belching. The presence of excess gastrointestinal gas is not itself a molecule or receptor but rather a physical phenomenon involving trapped bubbles of various gases (mainly nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, and methane) within the gut.
