GATA Binding Protein 3

Molecular classification
Transcription factor, GATA family transcription factors
01

Overview

GATA binding protein 3 (GATA3) is a member of the GATA family of transcription factors, characterized by their ability to bind the DNA consensus sequence 5'-AGATAG-3'. It plays a critical role in embryonic development, cell differentiation, and immune system regulation. GATA3 acts as a master regulator for T-helper type 2 (Th2) cell lineage commitment and is essential for the development and function of various organs and tissues. Dysregulation of GATA3 is implicated in diseases such as breast cancer and immunodeficiencies. It also negatively regulates adipogenesis.
