GATA-type zinc finger protein 1 (ZGLP1)

Target
ZGLP1
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Zinc finger protein

Overview

GATA-type zinc finger protein 1 (ZGLP1) is an evolutionarily conserved transcription factor characterized by a GATA-like zinc finger domain that enables sequence-specific DNA binding and regulation of gene expression, particularly in the nucleus of cells. ZGLP1 plays a crucial role in germ cell development, notably oocyte maturation, by activating key genes required for the oogenic program and by both positively and negatively regulating transcription by RNA polymerase II. It is expressed in multiple tissues such as the gonads, heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys, and is particularly important in embryonic germ cells in females. Dysregulation of ZGLP1 may be involved in certain diseases, including reproductive disorders and potentially cancer, making it a target of interest in biomedical research and drug development. However, no drugs or specific biomarkers for patient selection have been established for ZGLP1 to date.
