GCC2 antisense RNA 1 (GCC2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) gene located on chromosome 2q12.3, transcribed antisense to the GCC2 gene[2][3]. It does not encode a protein but acts as a regulator of gene expression, most likely influencing the expression of the sense GCC2 gene by forming sense-antisense RNA pairs[4]. GCC2-AS1 is significantly upregulated in lung adenocarcinoma tissue compared to normal tissue, where its higher expression is strongly associated with increased cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and poor prognosis in patients[2]. GCC2-AS1 has been proposed as both a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for lung adenocarcinoma, though its precise molecular pathways are still being determined. There are currently no drugs known to directly target GCC2-AS1, and it is not considered a receptor, enzyme, or classic therapeutic target, but rather a cancer-associated regulatory RNA[2][3][4].
