GCSH pseudogene 3 (GCSHP3)

Target
GCSHP3
Molecular classification

Overview

GCSH pseudogene 3 (GCSHP3) is a non-protein-coding genomic locus related to the Glycine cleavage system protein H (GCSH). Pseudogenes are defined by their resemblance to a parent gene but contain disabling mutations that prevent them from encoding functional proteins. GCSHP3 is not involved in glycine cleavage or metabolic pathways directly, nor does it play a functional role in cell signaling, drug response, or disease. Instead, like other pseudogenes, it may contribute to genomic architecture and occasionally to regulatory phenomena, but its presence can pose challenges for genomic data analysis due to its high sequence similarity to protein-coding genes. There is no evidence it acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor, nor is it validated as a clinical biomarker or therapeutic target.

Biological functions

Lack of direct biological function (typical for pseudogenes)Genomic regulation through sequence homology (indirect role)Rare regulatory effects (indirect role)
03

Disease associations

Not directly implicated in disease (typical for pseudogenes)Contribution to errors in variant callingContribution to regulatory disruptions in specific contexts
04

Safety considerations

May cause variant calling errors in genomic assays due to sequence similarity to GCSH, potentially leading to misinterpretation in clinical genetic testingPotential indirect epigenetic regulation if inserted near promoters, with rare consequences on host gene expression
