GDNF Family Receptor Alpha-3 (GFRα3)

Target
GFRα3
Molecular classification
Receptor, Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface receptor, GDNF receptor family, Extrinsic tyrosine kinase receptor
01

Overview

GDNF Family Receptor Alpha-3 (GFRα3) is a GPI-anchored cell surface receptor and a member of the GDNF receptor family. It binds primarily to artemin (ARTN) and forms a signaling complex with the RET tyrosine kinase receptor, mediating downstream signaling pathways involved in nervous system development, neuron survival, and sensory nerve function. It is also expressed in pancreatic endocrine progenitors and has been implicated in cancer and pain pathways.

Mechanism of action

GFRα3 forms a signaling complex with the RET tyrosine kinase receptor upon binding to Artemin, mediating artemin-induced autophosphorylation and activation of RET, and initiating downstream pathways like MAPK signaling cascades.
