Gene Expression (via siRNA-mediated Inhibition) (siRNA-mediated Gene Inhibition)

Target
siRNA-mediated Gene Inhibition
Molecular classification
RNA, siRNA, RNAi pathway components (Dicer, RISC, Argonaute)
01

Overview

Gene expression via siRNA-mediated inhibition is a process where small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules are used to selectively silence specific genes. This exploits the natural RNA interference (RNAi) pathway to degrade mRNA, preventing protein translation. The process involves Dicer processing dsRNA into siRNA, RISC loading and guide strand selection, and target mRNA cleavage by Argonaute proteins. It is highly specific and versatile, with potential applications in functional genomics research and as a therapeutic approach for diseases linked to aberrant gene expression.
