General metabolic pathways encompass the vast network of biochemical reactions within a cell or organism that convert nutrients into energy and building blocks for macromolecule synthesis (StatPearls, 2023). These pathways include glycolysis, the citric acid cycle, oxidative phosphorylation, and various biosynthetic routes for lipids, amino acids, and nucleotides.
