Overview

General transcription factor II-I repeat domain-containing protein 2B (GTF2IRD2B) is a glycosylated phosphoprotein with a leucine zipper motif, two helix-loop-helix (I repeat) domains, a BED zinc finger, and a C-terminal CHARLIE8 transposon-like element[1][3]. It is a member of the TFII-I family of transcription factors and appears to have a role in gene regulation through interactions with TFII-I and other family members, possibly sequestering or antagonizing their function in the nucleus[1][2]. The gene is primate-specific, with evolutionary origin following gene duplication events, and lies within a chromosomal region involved in Williams-Beuren syndrome[1][3]. Experimental data suggest it modulates transcription via direct protein-protein interactions and subnuclear localization changes, but its direct functions are not fully characterized; recent findings support its role as a regulatory fine-tuner in both species-specific development and potentially pathological processes such as in hepatocellular carcinoma[1][2][3].
