GTF2A1L
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Other (testis-specific transcription coactivator)

Overview

General transcription factor IIA subunit 1-like (GTF2A1L) encodes a germ cell-specific large (alpha/beta) subunit of general transcription factor TFIIA, important for the assembly and stability of the RNA polymerase II transcription pre-initiation complex in eukaryotes[1][2][10]. It functions by stabilizing the interaction between TATA-binding protein (TBP) and DNA, working in conjunction with GTF2A2, and is believed to be essential for transcription in the testis, potentially contributing to spermatogenesis and testis-specific gene expression[1][4][10]. Alternative splicing generates distinct isoforms, and a rare fusion transcript (SALF) has been described[1][2]. While GTF2A1L is implicated in some Mendelian disease phenotypes,[2] it is not broadly recognized as a direct therapeutic target or a receptor/enzyme classically targeted by drugs.
