General transcription factor IIA subunit 2 (GTF2A2) is a protein subunit of the general transcription factor TFIIA, which is a component of the basal transcription machinery required for accurate transcription initiation by RNA polymerase II on TATA-containing gene promoters[1][4][5][7]. GTF2A2 encodes the small (gamma, ~12 kDa) subunit of the TFIIA complex, which, together with the larger alpha/beta subunit (encoded by GTF2A1), interacts with the TATA-binding protein (TBP) to stabilize its binding to promoter DNA, facilitate preinitiation complex formation, and exclude negative regulators from interfering with TBP function[1][3][4][5]. TFIIA acts as a coactivator for some transcriptional activators and has a critical structural and regulatory role in eukaryotic gene expression. There is currently no direct evidence linking GTF2A2 to major therapeutic roles, drugs, or clinical biomarkers[1][2][5][7].
