Overview

General transcription factor IIF subunit 2 pseudogene 2 (GTF2F2P2) is a human processed pseudogene located on chromosome 7 and is a retrocopy derived from the functional parental gene GTF2F2, which encodes a subunit of the general transcription factor IIF involved in RNA polymerase II transcription initiation and elongation[3][4][5]. Unlike its functional counterpart, GTF2F2P2 is classified as a pseudogene and is not capable of producing a functional protein product due to disabling mutations and/or lack of regulatory elements[2][7]. No evidence supports a role for GTF2F2P2 as a therapeutic target, nor are there known interactions with drugs, biomarker uses, or reported disease associations. GTF2F2P2 is a processed pseudogene, specifically a retrocopy; it lacks introns and arose by reverse transcription of mRNA from the parental gene followed by reintegration into the genome[5][9]. Pseudogenes like GTF2F2P2 can sometimes be transcribed at low levels or influence the regulation of their functional gene counterparts, but no specific regulatory function has been reported for this particular pseudogene[2]. The presence of highly homologous pseudogenes in the genome can complicate genetic analyses, especially by causing amplification bias in PCR-based methods[2][7].
