Target intelligence / Profile preview

General transcription factor IIH subunit 1 (GTF2H1)

Target
GTF2H1
Molecular classification
Transcription factor, Component of basal transcription machinery
01

Overview

General transcription factor IIH subunit 1 (GTF2H1) is a core component of the TFIIH complex, which is essential for both RNA polymerase II-mediated transcription initiation and nucleotide excision repair of damaged DNA. It plays a key role in opening DNA at promoters to allow transcription initiation and participates in the DNA repair process by facilitating the excision of damaged DNA fragments and their subsequent replacement. GTF2H1 also enables interactions with nuclear receptors and other transcriptional regulators, with disruption of its function linked to disease processes, particularly those related to DNA repair deficiency and transcriptional dysregulation.
