General transcription factor IIH subunit 5 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Pseudogene
01

Overview

The general transcription factor IIH subunit 5 pseudogene represents a non-functional genomic copy of the *GTF2H5* gene, which encodes a subunit of the transcription and DNA repair factor TFIIH. Unlike the functional *GTF2H5* gene, which participates in nucleotide excision repair and gene transcription, pseudogenes typically lack coding potential due to disabling mutations and are not transcribed or translated into functional protein. Some pseudogenes are transcribed and can play a regulatory role, but no direct regulatory or disease link has been established for this pseudogene. Pseudogenes are generally not considered drug targets, and there are no known interacting drugs, mechanism of action, biomedical applications, or established clinical utility for this locus[2][5][8].

Biological functions

Most pseudogenes do not have established biological functionsIn some cases, pseudogenes have been shown to participate in regulation of gene expression, but there is no evidence the *GTF2H5* pseudogene has this role.
