General transcription factor IIi pseudogene 4 (GTF2IP4) is a non-functional genetic element on chromosome 7 (7q11.23), related to the functional transcription factor GTF2I. Unlike GTF2I, GTF2IP4 does not encode a protein and is considered a pseudogene. Some studies investigate RNA editing events on GTF2IP4 transcripts in diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, suggesting a potential, though indirect, regulatory role. However, there is no evidence that GTF2IP4 acts as a therapeutic target, nor is it known to have direct biological or pathological functions via protein products[7]. GTF2IP4 is distinct from GTF2I, which is an established protein-coding gene encoding a transcription factor involved in gene regulation, cell growth, and is implicated in certain diseases such as thymomas and Williams syndrome[1][2][4][5]. Any apparent functional or therapeutic relevance likely refers erroneously to GTF2I, not GTF2IP4. There is no evidence supporting the use of GTF2IP4 as a therapeutic target or biomarker, and the entry may be included incorrectly if intended as a drug target or protein receptor[7].
