General transcription factor IIIA pseudogene 5 (GTF3AP5) is a genomic sequence annotated as a pseudogene of the General transcription factor IIIA (GTF3A). Pseudogenes such as GTF3AP5 are remnants of ancestral genes that usually do not produce functional protein products due to various mutations or loss of regulatory elements. While the canonical GTF3A gene encodes an essential transcription factor involved in 5S ribosomal RNA synthesis, GTF3AP5 itself has no established functional protein product, no direct role in biological processes, and is not considered a therapeutic target[8][9]. The existence of such pseudogenes is primarily relevant to genome annotation and evolutionary studies rather than medical or pharmacological intervention. Most pseudogenes, including GTF3AP5, do not have disease associations, interact with drugs, or function as biomarkers; exceptional cases where pseudogenes are transcribed or translated in vivo are very rare and generally not therapeutically relevant[9].
