General vesicular transport factor p115 (USO1) is a peripheral membrane protein required for vesicular transport from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the Golgi apparatus and for intercisternal transport within the Golgi stack. It is regulated by phosphorylation; dephosphorylated p115 associates with Golgi membranes, while phosphorylation causes dissociation. USO1 acts as a tethering factor, bringing COPII vesicles into proximity with target Golgi membranes by interacting with vesicle-associated SNARE proteins to promote fusion and trafficking through the early secretory pathway. Although essential for vesicle trafficking and Golgi integrity, it is not recognized as a direct therapeutic target and no drugs are known to interact with it[1][4][7].
