Gingival-derived mesenchymal stem cell (GMSC) proliferation refers to the biological process of cell division and population expansion of multipotent stromal cells harvested from the gingival tissue. GMSCs are a unique subpopulation of mesenchymal stem cells known for their easy accessibility, rapid proliferation rate, and potent immunomodulatory properties, which make them attractive candidates for regenerative medicine (Zhang et al., 2009, Journal of Dental Research). This proliferative process is regulated by various endogenous growth factors and signaling pathways, such as the Wnt/beta-catenin and MAPK cascades, which maintain the stemness and self-renewal of the cells (Mao et al., 2017, Stem Cells International). While GMSC proliferation is a critical parameter in developing cell-based therapies for inflammatory and autoimmune conditions, it is a biological phenomenon or cellular readout rather than a discrete molecular target like a receptor or enzyme. In a therapeutic context, researchers may use growth factors such as basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) to enhance this proliferation ex vivo to ensure sufficient cell numbers for clinical transplantation (Wang et al., 2011, Journal of Periodontal Research).
