GJD2 divergent transcript (GJD2-DT) is a non-coding RNA gene located on chromosome 15q14, classified as a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA). It is predicted bioinformatically to be involved in functions related to protein targeting to the membrane via the signal recognition particle pathway and signal sequence recognition, perhaps as part of the endoplasmic reticulum targeting machinery. There is currently no established protein product, and the biological relevance is predicted, not experimentally validated. Genomic studies have linked GJD2-DT to loci associated with prostate cancer risk, dilated cardiomyopathy, and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, but there is no evidence it is a therapeutic target, nor are there known drugs that modulate its activity directly. No phenotypic biomarkers or safety concerns have been reported for GJD2-DT.
