Glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor family receptor alpha-like (GFRAL)

01

Overview

GFRAL is a receptor belonging to the GDNF receptor family, specific to GDF15. Upon binding, it forms a complex with the RET tyrosine kinase, modulating appetite and energy homeostasis. Primarily expressed in the area postrema and nucleus tractus solitarius of the brainstem, GFRAL is a promising therapeutic target for obesity and cachexia. Blocking the GDF15-GFRAL-RET pathway shows promise in reversing cachexia symptoms.
