Overview

Glioblastoma down-regulated RNA (GLIDR) is a long intergenic non-coding RNA (lincRNA) gene located on human chromosome 9 (chr9:39705825-39810128, hg38)[3][5]. It is also referred to as FAM88A, LINC01172, and several other aliases. GLIDR is characterized as a regulatory RNA molecule, not encoding a protein, but playing a role in post-transcriptional and potentially epigenetic regulation of gene expression. Functionally, it has been implicated in controlling the G1/S transition in the cell cycle and is associated with tumor-suppressive processes. It is notably downregulated in glioblastoma and its abnormal expression has been linked to the progression and aggressiveness of several cancers, such as glioblastoma and prostate cancer[1][7]. Like other lincRNAs, GLIDR likely regulates adjacent and distant genes via interactions with chromatin and protein complexes, but specific mechanisms are not fully detailed in published studies[6]. Its role as a direct therapeutic target has not been established, and no pharmacological agents directly targeting GLIDR are currently known. Research involving GLIDR continues to investigate its contribution to cancer biology, particularly in the context of cell cycle regulation and tumorigenesis[1][7].
