GLIS2 antisense RNA 1 (GLIS2-AS1)

Target
GLIS2-AS1
Molecular classification
Antisense RNA, long noncoding RNA

Overview

GLIS2 antisense RNA 1 (GLIS2-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the GLIS2 gene. Antisense RNAs typically act by regulating the expression of their sense counterparts through cis- or trans-transcriptional interference, chromatin modification, and regulation of mRNA stability or translation[3]. While many antisense lncRNAs can modulate vital gene networks or serve as candidate therapeutic targets, there are currently no specific disease associations, drug interactions, or validated biomarkers involving GLIS2-AS1[3]. Its mechanisms would be expected to align with general antisense RNA processes, such as influencing GLIS2 gene transcription via promoter competition, transcriptional occlusion, or recruiting chromatin modifiers[3]. No evidence currently supports its direct role as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or classical therapeutic target. GLIS2-AS1 is a valid gene symbol and molecular entity as an antisense RNA, but is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or direct drug target. There is no suggestion of misspelling or molecular ambiguity. Information is limited about any disease function or direct targeting utility for GLIS2-AS1 as of 2024.
