Overview
Glomerular filtration is the initial and essential step in urine formation, occurring in the kidneys. It involves filtering blood plasma through the glomerulus, removing excess fluid and waste products while retaining necessary cells and large proteins. It is regulated by hydrostatic and osmotic pressures, autoregulation, hormonal control, and neural input. Alterations can cause proteinuria/hematuria/kidney dysfunction.
