Overview

GLR5 pseudogene 2 (GLRX5P2) is a processed pseudogene located in the human genome; it is related to the GLRX5 (Glutaredoxin 5) gene but does not produce a functional protein[1][2][4]. Like many pseudogenes, it may be transcribed as RNA, which in rare cases can have regulatory effects on other genes (such as acting as a miRNA decoy or producing antisense RNA), but there is currently no specific evidence for functional activity in the case of GLRX5P2[3][6]. Pseudogenes frequently complicate genetic analyses due to sequence similarities with functional genes, but are generally not included as drug targets or biomarkers for disease[6]. It should not be classified as a typical molecular target (e.g., receptor, enzyme, transporter) since pseudogenes do not code for functional proteins and are usually not involved in drug interactions or direct cellular signaling pathways[2][6].
