Target intelligence / Profile preview
Glucagon secretion refers to the regulated release of the peptide hormone glucagon from pancreatic alpha cells. Glucagon plays a critical role in glucose homeostasis by stimulating hepatic glucose production, especially during fasting or hypoglycemia. This process involves sensing low blood glucose, withdrawal of insulin inhibition, and autonomic nervous system activation, leading to exocytosis of glucagon-containing vesicles. Dysregulation can contribute to diabetes mellitus pathogenesis.
