Glucocerebroside

Molecular classification
Glycosphingolipid, Lipid
01

Overview

Glucocerebroside, also known as glucosylceramide, is a type of glycosphingolipid found in the cell membranes. It consists of a ceramide backbone linked to a single glucose molecule. It plays a role in cell membrane structure, signaling, embryogenesis, cell adhesion, migration, and energy homeostasis. Accumulation of glucocerebroside is associated with Gaucher disease and other metabolic disorders.
