Glucocorticoid modulatory element-binding protein 1 (GMEB1) is a transcription factor that binds glucocorticoid modulatory elements (GME) in promoters such as the tyrosine aminotransferase (TAT) gene, modulating sensitivity to glucocorticoid signaling. It commonly forms a complex with GMEB2, essential for parvovirus DNA replication, and has roles in both transcription coactivation and the inhibition of apoptosis. Overexpression of GMEB1 has been linked to enhanced tumor cell proliferation, migration, and resistance to apoptosis, notably in hepatocellular carcinoma. GMEB1 has also been implicated as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in various cancers and is associated with certain neurodegenerative diseases.
