GCNT1P1 (glucosaminyl (N-acetyl) transferase 1 pseudogene 1) is a human genomic pseudogene, meaning it is a segment of DNA that resembles a functional gene (in this case, GCNT1), but does not code for a functional protein product. Pseudogenes can arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition and are usually nonfunctional due to mutations, truncations, or lack of necessary regulatory sequences. While a small subset of pseudogenes can act as regulatory RNAs or genetic elements, there is no current evidence suggesting that GCNT1P1 is expressed or has a biological or clinical function. It is not involved in any known therapeutic or diagnostic processes and should not be treated as a canonical drug target.
