Glucose 6-phosphate translocase (G6PT), encoded by the SLC37A4 gene, is a transmembrane protein located in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membrane. Its primary function is to transport glucose-6-phosphate (G6P) from the cytoplasm into the ER lumen, where it is hydrolyzed by glucose-6-phosphatase to produce free glucose. This process is essential for gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis, and G6PT plays a critical role in maintaining blood glucose homeostasis. Mutations in SLC37A4 cause Glycogen Storage Disease type Ib (GSD-Ib).
