Glucose-fructose oxidoreductase domain-containing protein 1 (GFOD1) is a member of the Gfo/Idh/MocA-like oxidoreductase family, encoded by the GFOD1 gene on human chromosome 6[3][8][10]. Although it structurally resembles canonical oxidoreductases, GFOD1 lacks key residues for binding NAD or NADP cofactors and does not possess confirmed enzymatic activity, leading it to be classified as a pseudoenzyme[2]. GFOD1 is expressed predominantly in the brain and has been implicated in neurological and psychiatric conditions, including attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder[2][3]. The protein interacts with NKIRAS2, suggesting a possible regulatory role in cellular signaling[2]. It has also been proposed as a marker for disease progression in clear-cell renal cell carcinoma[9]. Current evidence does not support GFOD1 as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and no drugs targeting GFOD1 have been reported.
