Target intelligence / Profile preview
Glucose transporter 3 (GLUT3) is a member of the facilitative glucose transporter family, primarily responsible for transporting glucose across plasma membranes in mammalian cells. It is most notably expressed in neurons, where it plays a critical role in supplying energy to neuronal tissue. It has the highest affinity for glucose among Class I transporters, ensuring preferential glucose uptake by neurons. Defects or reduced expression are associated with neurodegenerative diseases.
