Target intelligence / Profile preview
Glucose Transporter 9 (GLUT9), encoded by the SLC2A9 gene, is a facilitative hexose transporter primarily expressed in the kidney and liver. It plays a crucial role in uric acid homeostasis by mediating the reabsorption of urate in the proximal tubules of the kidney. GLUT9 also transports glucose and fructose. Genetic variations in SLC2A9 are strongly associated with serum uric acid levels and an increased risk of gout and other metabolic disorders.
Facilitated transport of glucose, fructose, and urate across cell membranes.
