Glucose uptake in pinworms (and other parasitic nematodes) is the process by which these organisms absorb glucose from their environment to fuel metabolism, growth, and reproduction. It occurs primarily through facilitated diffusion across the worm's outer surface, mediated by glucose transporter proteins. This is a validated target for anthelmintic drug development. The dependence of pinworms on host-derived glucose makes their transporters attractive targets for intervention. Inhibitors that block these transporters or disrupt associated signaling pathways can effectively starve parasites.
