Overview
Glutamate is the most abundant excitatory neurotransmitter in the vertebrate nervous system. It plays a central role in neural activation, protein biosynthesis, and intermediary metabolism. Dysregulation of glutamate signaling is implicated in various neurological disorders. Glutamate acts on ionotropic receptors (NMDA, AMPA, Kainate) and metabotropic receptors (mGluRs).
