Glutamate-ammonia ligase (glutamine synthetase) pseudogene 1 (GLULP1)

Target
GLULP1
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Processed pseudogene, Non-coding RNA (potential for lncRNA production)
01

Overview

GLULP1, or glutamate-ammonia ligase (glutamine synthetase) pseudogene 1, is a processed pseudogene derived from the active GLUL gene, which encodes glutamine synthetase. Unlike GLUL, which catalyzes the conversion of glutamate and ammonia to glutamine, GLULP1 is non-coding due to accumulated mutations and is not translated into a functional enzyme. Some pseudogenes have regulatory functions at the RNA level or can modulate gene expression, but GLULP1, specifically, is currently only annotated as a pseudogene with no described protein product or biological activity. Its sequence is located on chromosome 5q33, and it may be transcribed as a non-coding RNA, but direct biological functions, disease associations, or clinical relevance are not established at present.
