Glutamate-ammonia ligase pseudogene 6 (GLULP6) is a non-coding pseudogene, related in sequence to the glutamate-ammonia ligase (glutamine synthetase) gene. Pseudogenes such as GLULP6 do not produce a functional protein and are generally considered transcriptionally silent, lacking therapeutic or biomarker utility. The functional gene GLUL is involved in ammonia detoxification and glutamine biosynthesis, but GLULP6 does not contribute to these pathways[4][3]. GLULP6 may share sequence similarity to GLUL and has genome annotation references such as HGNC:37990, NCBI Gene:343981, and Ensembl:ENSG00000215043[4]. For drug discovery or therapeutic purposes, the relevant target is the functional protein, glutamate-ammonia ligase/glutamine synthetase (GLUL), not the GLULP6 pseudogene[1][2][7].
