Glutamate-gated chloride ion channel alpha-type subunit (GluClα)

Target
GluClα
Molecular classification
Ligand-gated ion channel, Ion channel, Receptor
01

Overview

The glutamate-gated chloride ion channel alpha-type subunit, encoded by the Avr-14 gene, is a member of the ligand-gated ion channel superfamily found in invertebrates. This protein forms part of a pentameric receptor complex that mediates inhibitory neurotransmission by allowing chloride ions to flow across cell membranes upon activation by extracellular glutamate. It is a primary target for macrocyclic lactone drugs such as ivermectin, and mutations in Avr-14 can confer resistance to these drugs.
