Target intelligence / Profile preview

Glutamate ionotropic receptor kainate type subunit 2 (GRIK2)

Target
GRIK2
Molecular classification
Receptor, Ion channel, Ligand-gated ion channel, Glutamate receptor, Kainate receptor
01

Overview

GRIK2 is a subunit of the kainate family of ionotropic glutamate receptors. It functions as a cation-permeable ligand-gated ion channel, mediating fast excitatory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. GRIK2 is involved in synaptic plasticity, learning, memory, and other neurological processes. Mutations in GRIK2 are associated with neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by intellectual disability, developmental delay, and epilepsy.
