Overview

The Glutamate receptor AMPA type subunit GluA1 (GluA1), encoded by the GRIA1 gene, is a critical subunit of AMPA-type ionotropic glutamate receptors (AMPARs). AMPARs mediate fast excitatory synaptic transmission in the brain. GluA1 plays a crucial role in synaptic plasticity, including long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD), through phosphorylation-dependent trafficking and conductance changes. Its dysregulation is implicated in cognitive disorders and neurodegenerative diseases.
