Overview

Glutamate receptor ionotropic NMDA subunit 2D (GluN2D) is a subunit of the NMDA receptor, an ionotropic glutamate receptor that plays a critical role in excitatory neurotransmission, synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory. It forms heterotetrameric complexes with GluN1 subunits to create functional NMDA receptors. GluN2D contributes unique characteristics to the receptor complex. Mutations in the GRIN2D gene are associated with neurological disorders such as epileptic encephalopathies and intellectual disability.
