Overview

Glutamate receptor ionotropic NMDA subunit 3B (GRIN3B), also known as GluN3B or NR3B, is a protein that forms part of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor complex. The inclusion of NR3/GluN3 reduces calcium influx through the channel, alters channel kinetics, and changes sensitivity to agonists like glycine and glutamate. GRIN3B is found primarily in motor neurons and plays a role in synaptic plasticity, memory formation, learning processes, neural development, excitatory neurotransmission, and neuroprotection/neurotoxicity balance. Variants in *GRIN* genes have been associated with neurological disorders including intellectual disability and epilepsy.
