Overview

Glutamate-rich protein 1 (ERICH1) is a protein-coding gene associated with the human genome. It has been identified as a candidate gene in studies of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), where it shows frequent copy number alterations correlated with expression changes, suggesting a potential but currently unclear role as either an oncogene or tumor suppressor. ERICH1 is expressed in various tissues, with the exact protein function not fully understood. Genomic deletions of ERICH1 were noted in hepatocellular carcinoma, which may indicate a role in tumor suppression or disease development. To date, there is little evidence supporting its classification as a direct therapeutic target, such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or classical signaling molecule. No drugs or established mechanism of action for drug targeting are reported. Further biological and functional studies are necessary to clarify its cellular role and its relevance or potential as a therapeutic or diagnostic target in cancer biology[1][2][5].
